In a time where authorities have instructed the general public to stay indoors and take preventive measures to help mitigate the current situation, it is a timely cause to contribute towards the betterment of our country.

Are you a concerned citizen who is enthusiastic about contributing towards curtailing this pandemic coronavirus? Join hands with the professionals to solve one of the biggest challenges faced by the citizens of Sri Lanka 

COVID-19 SL IDEAthon is an initiative taken by Mobitel, Sri Lanka’s National Mobile Service Provider partnering with Ministry of Higher Education, Technology and Innovation to create a platform for tech enthusiasts, university students, industry experts and passionate general public to ideate, brainstorm, conceptualize and implement solutions to support the drive towards curtailing the COVID-19 outbreak. This initiative will be beneficial to engage the general public who are isolated and self-quarantined at their respective homes to contribute towards a national requirement inculcating their knowledge. The novel ideas generated through this initiative will be evaluated by an expert advisory panel and selected ideas will be utilized islandwide to control the current situation in the country through technology.

In this virtual ideathon, participants are encouraged submit ideas, solutions, products, systems, platforms, mobile or web applications which can be implemented utilizing modern technologies like mobile, web, IoT (Internet of Things), big data, AI, electronics etc. and/or indigenous technologies in order to contain the spread of CoVID-19.

You can submit your ideas aligned but not limited below areas

  • Containment of the virus – Safety measures and other containment efforts that we can implement using new technologies to mitigate the transmission of the virus
  • Affected patient care and management – steps we can take not to compromise the capacity of the current healthcare system and also to keep track of affected and potential patients 
  • Reducing difficulties caused by community mitigation – measures to serve the general public assist their day to day needs. eg: telemedicine, food delivery and other essentials. 
  • Business sustainability – measures to be taken for the sustainability of small/large scale businesses by efficient and safe workforce management. 
  • Distance learning methods – steps we could create to overcome the widespread disruption of the educational systems due to the pandemic

Step 1: Idea Submission

Step 2: Idea Evaluation
Submitted ideas will be evaluated by an expert advisory panel and best ideas will be selected for feasibility analysis and implementation.

Step 3: Idea Owner Recognition
Selected Idea owners will be recognized for their passionate contribution made at the much needed hour for the country

Step 4: Idea Implementation
Selected ideas will be shared with the COVID-19 SL Task force through the advisory panel and Ministry of Higher Education, Technology and innovation for further feasibility analysis and implementation. If you are already with the solution, or if you can develop the solution you will be able to work with relevant authorities at the implementation stage

This is conducted as a 48 Hour virtual Ideathon and idea submission will be available from Sunday, the 22nd of March at 8:00 am to Tuesday, the 24th March 2020 at 8:00am. You can participate remotely by submitting your ideas

Yes, anyone can participate in this ideathon remotly, if they have innovative, implementable and practical solutions with technology for protecting Sri Lanka from Covid-19 crisis.

Yes, you can. But you will have to submit each idea separately. That is, you have to fill a separate form for each idea.

No, this is not a team based ideation. Ideas have to be submitted by an individual person.
